VMware Horizon version 8 (2006)
Infrastructure :- Planning and Preparation
Before you Begin make sure that your environment meets the following infrastructure requirements:
- VMware vSphere and vCenter Server –you must have a VMware vSphere and vCenter Server 6.x or later.
- Active Directory domain controller – The authentication infrastructure for your setup must include Active Directory, DNS, and DHCP is required.
- SQL database server – This is the database server on which you will create the event database.
- Network – VMware recommends a network connection speed of at least 1 Gbps between all the required Horizon 7 components and desktops.
Note: By default, the installation process creates a self-signed SSL certificate to encrypt connections to the Horizon Connection Server. While the server will function with this default self-signed certificate installed, it is recommended you replace the default certificate with an approved certificate signed by a certificate authority.

Horizon 2006: VMware moved to the YYMM-style format to version the Horizon Server, For example, 2006 represents the year 2020 and the month of June.
After completing the preparation checklist,
Create VMs for the Connection Server
Use the following procedure as a guideline to understand the high-level steps
- Create a VM for Horizon Connection Server
- Install the Windows Server Operating System
- Update Windows
- Install VMware Tools
- Change the Network Adapter to VMXNET 3
- Clone the VM to a Template-
- Deploy VMs from the Template
- Deploy VMs as needed for the following Horizon servers:
- Connection Server/Replica server
- Microsoft SQL Server, if you do not already have a server to use
- Composer, if you plan to perform the exercises for creating linked clones
Installing Connection Server:
The first Horizon Connection Server you install will be referred to as a Horizon 8 Standard
Server during the installation process.
- Download Horizon 2006 Horizon Connection Server.

- After the download, launch the VMware Horizon 8 Connection Server installer as administrator on a virtual machine.
Note: The system must be a member of a domain but cannot be a domain controller.

- Welcome to the Installation Wizard, Click Next

- Accept the terms of the license agreement and click Next

- Click Next to install to this folder

- Select Horizon 7 Standard Server, On the Installation Options screen and click Next

- Enter a Data Recovery password, and click Next

- Select Configured Windows Firewall automatically and click Next

- Enter an AD group containing your Horizon administrators, and click Next

- On the User Experience Improvement Program screen, uncheck the box and click Next

- On the Ready to Install the Program page, with horizon 8 2006 there are new options to select for your deployment:
- General – Selected by default
- AWS (either VMware Cloud on AWS, or EC2 Native)
- Dell EMC (the VMware Cloud on Dell EMC solution)
- Azure (the Azure VMware Solution solution)
- Google Cloud (the Google Cloud on VMware Engine)
- Oracle Cloud (the Oracle Cloud on VMware Engine)
Click Install to proceed with the installation

- On the Installer Completed page, uncheck the box, and click Finish.

The first Horizon Connection Server you install will be referred to as a Horizon 8 Standard Server during the installation process.
Installing and Configuring a replica of your Horizon Connection Server means that, if the Connection Server fails, users are still able to connect to their virtual desktop machines or applications.
A minimum of two and a maximum of seven Horizon Connection Server instances are present in a single Horizon pod. All Horizon Connection Server instances replicate inventory and configuration data among their partners.
Install Horizon Connection Server Replica
- launch the VMware Horizon 7 Connection Server installer as administrator on a virtual machine.
Note: The system must be a member of a domain but cannot be a domain controller.

- Welcome to the Installation Wizard, Click Next

- Accept the terms of the license agreement and click Next

- Click Next to install to this folder

- Select Horizon Replica Server, On the Installation Options screen and click Next

- On the Source Server page, enter an existing Horizon Connection Server and click Next.

- Select Configure Windows Firewall automatically and click Next

- On the Ready to Install the Program page, Click Install to proceed with the installation.

- On the Installer Completed page, uncheck the box, and click Finish.

Note: It is recommended that you implement some load-balancing method to help balance the client connections across all the Horizon Connection Servers in your infrastructure so that Horizon Client systems can connect to a single URL.
