Why and What is 360 Degree view?

As we see the evolution of multiple monitoring and management tools for the the key data center infrastructure elements – Compute, Storage and Network, organizations are still faced by the challenge of interpreting the large data set that comes in from all these tools in the form of thousands of metrics, against a common performance, capacity or a security issue.

The reason here is, the business application becomes the core which drives the need of an infrastructure – expansion, optimization, migration, refresh and so on. The need for reactive and proactive monitoring begins from the Application or the business user. Hence it becomes very important to have the visibility to the infrastructure, from all perspectives – Compute, Storage, Network and this calls for the need to have the right tools and best practices in place which are easy to use, inbuilt intelligent analytics, can be easily integrated to provide a single pane of glass view of performance, troubleshooting, capacity optimization, capacity planning, security gaps and security planing , availability, usage history, trend analysis and log monitoring, aggregation and smart alerting.

This is where the VMware vRealize stack containing – vRealize Operations, vRealize Log Insight and vRealize Network Insight, become the source of, what we call as a 360 Degree visibility for the Data center infrastructure.

vRealize Operations (vROPS) – Compute and Storage Infrastructure

vRealize Network Insight (vRNI) – Network (Virtual and Physical)

vRealize Log Insight (vRLI) – Log aggregation, Indexing and Search

With the changing application architectures from traditional monolithic model to the present day containerized micro services model, running on shared resource infrastructures like Virtualization, monitoring needs a more granular and intelligent approach. This is where we see the importance of having vROPS, vRLI and vRNI becoming the key pillars of monitoring for VMware vSphere based Virtual Infrastructures. The integration between these, provide an end to end monitoring solution for both proactive and reactive visibility across virtual and physical Visibility.
